0507 — Houston is littered with bars, pubs, clubs and lounges and in such a saturated market attempting to get your business, I’ve certainly welcomed places such as Anvil that offer a fantastic drink selection with great food such as their pretzels, pizza and awesome tequila queso. My latest food adventure took me to Hearsay Gastro Lounge for a late lunch with a friend. My original plan for the Friday afternoon lunch was to goto BRC, however I didn’t know their kitchen closed around 2 for whatever reasons they had, I was assured that the details would be worked out by next week when I make my way over there for lunch.
Now back to Hearsay, located in the heart of the downtown bar scene on Travis, parking was no problem at 2pm on a Friday afternoon, but I can only imagine what a clusterfvck it is at nighttime when all you want is a quality drink instead of going toe to toe with the frat boys and wanna be gangsters. Aside from the parking situation the location seems great, converted old school buildings re-purposed for a great Lounge. I absolutely loved the inside of this place, super high celings and a great welcoming design. We sat down and looked over the menu, it didn’t help that I went straight for their cocktail menu despite being super hungry (lol). A quick flip back over to the food side and the waitress telling us about their lunch special and we knew what we wanted immediately. Camille and I both went with the Grilled Chicken Sandwich (Served on Ciabatta with Bacon, Tomato, Ranch Dressing and melted Mozzarella) since it was apart of their lunch special coupled with their tasty Rosemary Parmesan French Fries and Chicken Tortilla Soup. Along with the main entrée duties we opted for their sampler platter that included Smoked Salmon Crostini, Shrimp and Chicken Spring Rolls, Saint Arnold Beer Battered Asparagus, and some Mushrooms. Rounding out the meal was an order of the Mac and Four Cheese, as a self proclaimed fattie I love Mac and Cheese and the Mac and Cheese wasn’t anything special but was tasty, I just wish it had more cheese as opposed to all of it sitting on top.
While I did take a long look at their cocktail menu, I didn’t try any of the drinks out. I will leave that task to another night where it might garner another point from me, but for now the food is great and it serviced as a great lunch spot in the downtown area.
3/5: Great ambiance and food in an otherwise hectic (read: construction!) area of town
