Brasserie 19 (Houston, TX)
On a day where my girlfriend had to work I was left having to figure out where to eat without her and I didn’t want to eat anywhere I had been before. This left me looking for new restaurants to explore. El Gran Malo, Coppa, XucoXicana, the list goes on and on, I heard about the chef shuffles and other problems that Brasserie 19 faced so I was unsure how they would fare for lunch. A quick glance over their (outdated) PDF available on their website and I wanted to get a few things on their menu.
The reservation made through open table started off at 3 and quickly boomed into 6 by the time Saturday came around. I had my eyes on the mussels and the filet, Mo and I were originally planning to go all out and get the petite seafood platter to round out our excess lunch, but decided against it after some planned future drinking at Haven. Ladan order the beet salad, Dimitri ordered the filet carpaccio, Mo ordered the shrimp cocktail and I ordered the mussels. For our mains, Amir, Mo and I ordered the filet ranging from rare to medium rare which all coming out in beautiful form. My only complaint was that the steak came sitting on a few pieces of asparagus. Food stacked is completely unnecessary and quite ugly. I’ll have to move my food around and essentially screw up your plating so I can eat my food. Ladan had the Hen while Dimitri went with a sandwich. Everything looked great. I was more than happy with my mussels and gave everyone a piece to try.
Their fresh oyster bar in the rear looked interesting as well, their service was great and with an awkwardly placed hostess stand. The other customers looked interesting and fake at the same time, our table with all 30 something’s were the odd table out. Other tables came complete with their I’m on a boat but I’m no where near a shore look that was quite entertaining in itself. Great that the other patrons don’t factor in to anything that affects the quality of the food or service at the restaurant.
4/5: Mussels and Filet Mignon all come together for perfect harmony to make a fantastic lunch
