Chicago Round 2: Day Three

121811 –

The Publican

The Publican was one of those places that stuck with me since the last trip to Chicago, the dishes, charcuterie, decor, service was all pretty damn great. It’s one of those restaurants that I think I will always make an effort to get to when I’m in the city. Coming off a great first full day in Chicago, Tu and I decided to continue the essence of our getaway from Houston and stage the beginnings of our own Chicago Sunday Funday with a couple drinks from The Publican’s menu. I had “The Donnie Appleseed w/ Buffalo Trace, Falernum, Apple Cider and Fresh Apples.” We also split up an order of the Bouchot Mussels, Maple Glazed Pork Shoulder and Bucatini Alla Carbonara. Mother Fucking YES.

Ruxbin Kitchen

The day was full of strolling around the Skydeck, Publican Brunch, a run through the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium as well as a lot of shopping at TopShop and H&M. That was all prep for dinner at Ruxbin Kitchen. I met Jenny and Ed while looking for dining companions during my last visit to Next: Tour of Thailand. I sifted through a few emails before selecting them as who I wanted to dine with. We hit it off quite well and I told them that during my next trip I’d come visit. The unfortunate part was coming back during Jenny’s birthday weekend where Ed surprised her with a trip out to Napa that he later joined her for. This meant they weren’t at the restaurant, luckily Victoria was able to accommodate us even though we were a few hours late to the party. I had no idea they were BYOB so Tu and I made it our mission to find some appropriate beverages to accompany our dinner. Naturally, I went and acquired a bottle of fernet with ginger beer, and Tu had a bottle of Chase Elderflower Liquor and Orancita. We essentially ordered the entire Ruxbin Menu with exception of a few salads as we made way for the proteins.
